When making the decision to drive from Sydney to Darwin, via Alice Springs, Judi Muller knew she needed a reliable car.
In the end, Judi and her partner Daf Hewson, settled on a 2013 Subaru XV from Subaru North Shore in Sydney.
“We bought a new car for the specific purpose of using it for this driving holiday,” Judi explained.
“We chose the Subaru, most importantly because it had the highest ground clearance.
“Although we aren’t heading too radically off road, we are and have been, on dirt roads of varying conditions.
“We like the fact it is All-Wheel Drive which makes it safer than two wheels, and everyone we spoke to, that had a Subaru, said they were fabulous cars. Judi and Daf, from Leichhardt, decided on the XV due to its versatility and size.
“The car will be my city car when we get back to Sydney,” said Judi.
“The fact we can drive it across Australia and use it as a day-to-day car around Sydney, really shows how capable the XV is.”
“We also needed a lot of boot space as we are carrying everything bar the kitchen sink.
“The XV has been a delight to drive and handles really well on the open road. We didn’t even notice the fact we were carrying such a heavy load.”
The 68-year old retired couple set off from Sydney on April 9, taking their time to get to Alice Springs where they will spend three months, before setting off for Darwin.
“We will fly home from there and put the car on a truck,” said Judi.
“The XV will deserve a little bit of a holiday after the long journey across the country.”
